This is a wonderfully unique opportunity for a lover of country life to try their hand at herding sheep.
Where else do you get the chance to herd a flock of rogue sheep, with a trusty sheep dog, in a beautiful location in the heart of West Yorkshire?
First, the lucky recipient will have some tuition on understanding the instincts that the sheep dog has and the training that they’ve received in order to carry out their job effectively. There is a ‘language’ that you need to learn, so you’ll spend the morning trying this out and getting to grips with the commands. You’ll be trying out your newly acquired skills with 2 or 3 of the lovely dogs at the centre.
For lunch, the shepherds usually go to the pub, but you can bring a packed lunch if you’d prefer!
The afternoon is where you start herding for real. You’ll be out loose in the field and will attempt to herd a small flock of sheep, and also look to complete a small course. This is extremely satisfying if you can get it right! The feeling of getting all of the sheep safely inside the pen is fantastic.
By the end of your session, you’ll feel like a real shepherd. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself purchasing a shepherd’s crook at the earliest convenience!

Excellent Experience
What a fascinating insight into the world of working Border Collies. Our host was hugely knowledgeable and very entertaining. The collies we worked with were absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend this experience it was great fun and very enjoyable ??

Fabulous day.
What a fabulous enjoyable day. The trainer was great and the dogs gorgeous. The group were taken through several stages of training and practice leading to the final challenge. Very enjoyable day. Would definately recommend.

Wonderful Day
The sheepdog day was amazingly wonderful for me.
She has a Border Collie rescue place there too, and she has won every title worth winning, she was impressive to me. barbara styles....I would love to live there and learn from her full time...if only.
I was so taken by west yorkshire that I stayed the whole weekend, Steam train, Haworth, where the Brontes lived...and Saltaire, and amazing place.
