Choo choo choose this diesel steam train driving experience as your next big gift! A once in a lifetime gift, for someone very special!
Heritage diesel railcars are few and far between now, and have become a real classic locomotive. The examples used in this experience are from the 1950s and will be very much a source of enjoyment to a train fanatic or for people with an appreciation of classic engineering.
The lucky train driver for the day will be travelling the rails through the Peak District, from Wirksworth to Duffield, feeling the power and the prestige of a superb heritage railcar.
Drivers can take guests with them, so maybe if you’re lucky after giving this gift, you’ll be invited to relax in the passenger saloon, while they’re doing their driving.
Lunch will be served at the Pullman buffet within Wirksworth station, provided for both the driver and one chosen guest. Additional guests are welcome to pay to have lunch with them too.
The afternoon will be spent again out on the rails, taking the controls of a main line heritage diesel locomotive, driving portions of the 18-mile track, again on a return journey ending up back at Wirksworth.
A beautiful day, celebrating the history of train travel, delighting in an unmissable experience of driving trains themselves, and enjoying a day that will live long in the memory!

Kevin
Great day out, tour of yard, workshops and stock of railway engines and carriages.
Coffee and chat from Donna in the converted buffet carriage on how we would be split up into 2 teams to alternate between the Class 47 Diesel 1842 and the DMU.
The group I was in started with the 47 which was really quite exciting driving 120 tons of engine. Our group of 3 took turns at instruction, trying to concentrate while operating the controls and watching gauges whilst keeping an eye on the speed and signs for whistle and stops for crossing gates. After a lovely lunch we were next aboard the DMU on a different section of track which provided more of a challenge as we had gears to contend with! More fun and games as we struggled to get the sequences right.
The instructors were brilliant and all in all a great day out.

Drive a diesel train
A thoroughly enjoyable day, despite the intense heat. All the Railway staff were charming and the other drivers were a first class bunch too. A wonderful day. Thanks to all who made it possible.
