Wortwell Hall Barn + Tally Ho Tearooms

Charlotte from Customer Service
We booked to stay with Wortwell Hall Barn Bed and Breakfast and took the afternoon tea separate at The Tally Ho tea room. The hosts Clive and Jenny and their beautiful dog Roxie at Wortwell Hall Barn were fantastic and super welcoming, it felt as though you were visiting friends. They gave us tons of useful information as well as the local walking guides which was extremely helpful to explore the beautiful countryside of this rural venue. The bed is extremely comfortable. The breakfast was superb, although I have to admit my eyes were a bit too big for my belly!
The tea at Tally Ho tea rooms, was excellent, you had lots to choose from with 12 different tea varieties, and a whole host of sandwiches, which me and my guest got to choose one each from. There was so much food, that we ended up defeated and having to take a few of the cakes home to enjoy later! I would recommend this break to anyone looking to escape the hectic day to day life and recharge your batteries.
Top Tip
Breakfast was not included so we purchased this the second morning, at £9 each but again good value for money. At this venue they are very generous with their breakfast portions, therefore make sure your eyes are not too big for your belly!

The Duke of Marlborough, Woodleys, Woodstock

Jing from Marketing
The overall experience is 10 out of 10! The Duke of Marlborough hotel has two buildings - the front building is a pub/restaurant and the back building is the accommodations. Some wooden patio tables & benches are scattered near the pub. The weather was lovely this Easter weekend and I enjoyed sunbathing on the benches, drinking cider and reading a book!

The hotel is easy to find. It is just next to A44, but because the rooms are at the back of the pub, they are quite and far away from traffic. The hotel is only two miles away from the well-known historical town Woodstock. There are a few free gates into Blenheim Palace nearby, but please check as they do charge on some days and these gates will not get you access to the buildings themselves, just the grounds. Families with children may like to visit the Cotswolds Wildlife Park, which is only a 30 minutes driving away. A small village called Wootton is just next to the hotel within walking distance. It is a lovely, picturesque English village, but the roads are too narrow for driving! Please note The Killingworth Castle in Wootton on Google Map is a pub, not a real castle. It's still worth a visit for drinks or food.

Our room is comfy and has everything we need. It provides tea/coffee/biscuits, USB outlets, full bath & shower, toiletries, etc. A petrol station is just next door, so if you need anything essentials that you forgot to bring, you can just pop over and grab it.

One English afternoon tea is included in the experience. You can pick either day to have your treat! The afternoon tea includes Tea/coffee, scones, clotted cream and jam, two kinds of cakes and a variety of sandwiches - Just what you want for a summer afternoon!
Top Tip
The village Wootton is near to the hotel. It would be better to walk to Wootten from the hotel rather than driving because roads and alleys in Wootton are very narrow! It should only take about 15 minutes to walk.

Afon Rhaiadr Country House

Michael from Project Management
We chose Afon Rhaiadr Country House for our Two Night Getaway with Afternoon Tea, and I can honestly say it was a magical experience.

The house is a hidden gem in Southern Snowdonia, tucked at the foot of the legendary Cadair Idris mountain. I know calling a hotel "magical" sounds cliche, but it truly is. The country estate is filled with old-world decor, with grounds that include a forest, a stone bridge and cascading waterfalls. At the back of the house there's a bird feeder that attracts dozens of birds - we happily spent hours just watching them.

We arrived for our 4pm check-in and were warmly welcomed by Gina and Gareth, the owners. Gina gave us a tour of the house and gardens, showed us where breakfast would be served, and even let us peek inside a couple of the other rooms before the other guests arrived. We had upgraded to a king-size room, perfectly positioned just above the bird feeder. The rooms had everything you could want: robes available at reception, luxury shower products, and even real milk in the hallway fridge (a small but brilliant touch). Our names were written on the bedroom door, another simple but homely touch.

Another detail that really impressed us was the guest handbook in the room. It's a treasure trove of local information, with useful numbers and addresses, travel and tourist guides, weather warnings and even detailed hiking trail routes. It even featured not only a list of local pubs, but they were arranged by dress code, so we didn't have to worry about rocking up in walking boots. It was one of the most comprehensive and genuinely helpful guides I've ever seen in a hotel, another example of the incredible attention to detail here.

For Afternoon Tea, Gina let us choose between the luxurious lounge or the bright conservatory. We picked the conservatory for the bird-watching, and to our delight the furniture had been rearranged to give us the best view. Gareth explained the sandwiches he had prepared, while Gina's home-baked cakes and scones stole the show. We were encouraged to take our time, so we spent hours sipping tea, watching the birds and indulging in plate after plate of treats.

At this location you are required to book breakfast when booking using a gift experience voucher, and we were thrilled that we did. There's a menu of twelve different options, ranging from a hearty Full Welsh (with black pudding, of course) to pancakes, smoked salmon and eggs, or granola and yoghurt. My personal favourite was The South African - smashed avocado, shallot and tomato on toast, topped with an egg - a 10/10 start to the day. Everything was customisable too, with veggie, vegan and gluten-free alternatives to suit every preference. All of this, as well as a range of cereals, juices and tea/coffee.

Each morning before we headed out, Gina asked our plans for the day and advised on local goings on any the best places to eat. As we had mentioned that we wanted to hike up to the summit of Cadair Idris, she kindly kept an eye on the wind conditions for us, and advised on which route would be best with the conditions in mind, and even printed a map that she handed to us at breakfast. That level of thoughtfulness really set the tone for the whole stay.

Overall, we had a truly incredible experience. Gina and Gareth clearly love what they do, and it was so warming to return after a long day of hiking and exploring local towns to find them genuinely interested in how our day had gone. We cannot fault the hotel in any way. Their hundreds of glowing reviews are an honest testament to a couple who work tirelessly to make every guest's stay a magical one.
