Cookery lessons are ideal gifts for people with any calibre of culinary skill, from absolute beginners who are hoping to get some hints and tips that will give them the confidence to get started, to those who want to hone their expertise at the hands of an expert. The best way to learn is to get stuck in, so this cookery class is ideal for anyone who would rather taste and feel their way to a delicious dish than just watch someone else doing all the hard work.
If you know a couple who are completely lost when it comes to anything more complicated than beans on toast, treating them to a cookery lesson could change their lives.
A couple of foodies who are always looking for inspiration in the kitchen will learn a lot about how to choose and blend flavours as well as preparation and cooking techniques plus the chance to ask an expert anything that they want to know.
As for those in the middle, who are happy to cook but not exactly Masterchef material, a session such as this could help them to build their confidence to try new things, to be a little more adventurous.
The Smart School of Cookery is known for its hands-on approach, with teachers who are used to bringing their love of food alive for those in their classes. There are so many different themes to choose from depending on the school and season, from French and Italian to Indian and Moroccan, and everything in between! The chance to actually roll up their sleeves and prepare a meal is one which will give any calibre of chef plenty to get their teeth into.

Arrived at the venue which was very easy to find and in a beautiful location in London. You can only enter 10 mins prior to the experience start time but there are a few lovely places to get a drink 2 or 3 minutes away and right on the dock area.
The advisor was very friendly and gave some great tips on sharpening knives, how to cut certain veg and what parts of the garlic to remove.
We started to cook and everyone in the class got involved at different points. We chose the Latin American street food session which was based around Mexican food this time and was very nice. I would have liked it to have been one of the countries a little further south.
You were busy throughout the whole 2 hours looking at different aspects from making the dough to creating different fillings. As the class started to draw to a close you got to eat the food that had been produced, I can happily say it was very nice.
Top Tip
Move around the class when you are not involved cooking so you see all that is going on and take a note pad to jot down anything you think you might forget.

I haven't taken it yet, so can't comment on the content of the lesson. There are plenty of places to take it, and you can do it on any day of the week.
