What did you get up to?
I took one of my closest friends for a couple of nights away in the Geodome at Sherwood Pines. The site is beautifully laid out and the environment with the forest of trees, magnificent. The site caters to pods, caravans, motorhomes, tents etc. and visitors are not crammed together in rows. It felt very spacious. They have considered very carefully the arrangement of pitches and accommodation to make the most of the space and atmosphere. We were greeted by Carol at reception who couldn't have been more welcoming, followed by a member of staff escorting us on her bike to where our Geodome was. She took the time to answer questions and give advice for our stay. She made sure we understood the facilities available before leaving us. We spent the first evening just sitting on the decking, relaxing as the sun went down. The weather was beautiful which obviously helped but it is a stunning venue. We ate the BEST breakfast at the cafe near the visitor centre and Go Ape. What was wonderful was the mix of different areas for people of all ages to enjoy the forest canopy and activities available. We enjoyed a lovely walk back to the Geodome and spent the rest of the day relaxing and exploring the forest. The Geodome is spacious and can cater to 6 people, but I would advise that the only bed suitable for adults is the one double bed; the bunkbeds are only suitable for children and the sofa bed is a backup but the cushioning is quite thin. We had all of the facilities and equipment we needed, and as advertised. We just needed to go to the toilet block for the obvious, as well as showers, and pot washing. There is a dedicated dog washing room too. All of the facilities were really clean, no matter what time of the night visited. If you have time, go and visit the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and walk to the famous Major Tree. There is a cafe there too. I also highly recommend the Dog & Duck in Edwinstowe (5 mins away) for an evening meal. The meal was fantastic, couldn't fault it. We visited in Sept and the weather was lovely and balmy, but I think in the height of summer the Geodome could be extremely hot as there is only one small window and door to ventilate. We picked the perfect time I think, outside of the hectic summer months, so the whole experience was rejuvenating. I will certainly go back to Sherwood Pines.
What did you enjoy the most?
The environment is so special, the canopy of really tall trees creating a wonderful atmosphere. Maid Marion I am not but I could feel the history. I enjoyed spending time with my friend at such a lovely, relaxed venue, and exploring the area. Overall, it was just so quiet and peaceful, which I really appreciated.
