Hotel for hedgehogs and hoglets!

Hedgehogs are known as 'the gardener's friend' as they don't do any harm to your garden but they eat pests such as slugs, beetles etc. They will often try to shelter in a compost heap or a bonfire which can be dangerous to them, and they face other hazards such as gardening forks, lawn strimmers and predators. Providing them with a shelter can give them a greater chance of survival and allow them to hide from foxes, badgers and domestic pets such as dogs. The hedgehog igloo can be further secured with tent pegs if necessary.

This charming, waterproof hedgehog home is constructed from a study painted steel frame covered in a brush wood finish and decorated with rattan bands. Its attractive design allows it to blend into your garden nicely. It can be covered with extra leaves and foliage to create a perfect spot for hedgehog hibernation. It's spacious enough to provide shelter for a mother hedgehog and her hoglets (yes, that is the adorable term) and can be used as a feeding station too.

All you have to do is place the igloo hedgehog home in a sheltered spot in your garden, such as beside shrubs and facing away from the wind, place some dry leaves and/or short cut grass inside as nesting material and add some extra brushwood to the shelter in the winter. The narrow entrance will deter inquisitive dogs etc. and the waterproof roof provides protection from the elements. Sadly, hedgehog numbers are in decline and they could do with a little help to keep them safe. Providing a sanctuary for hedgehogs also helps children to learn the value of protecting wildlife.
