Every parent and their child should experience driving around in a tank together and firing giant paintballs at targets! Some say it’s the ultimate bonding activity.
This is called a Dads & Lads experience but don’t let that put you off, Mums & Daughters, this one is for you too!
Get kitted up in the official tank-driving uniform, comprising of a specialist tank suit and helmet.
This tank experience starts with a health & safety briefing and a talk on the history of your tank for the day, followed by a demo on how the controls work.
Before you get stuck in yourselves, the friendly instructor will drive you around the course, showing you how to drive the tank, while you sit in the turret seats and enjoy the thrilling view, as the tank rumbles along the rough terrain.
Then it’s time for the parent to take the wheel! The first lap will be with the hatch open, while you get to grips with manoeuvring the tank, and the second lap will be with the hatch down, using the periscope alone! If their parent’s driving isn’t too scary, the child can sit up front and really be part of the action. Your instructor will be giving you handy tips and instructions as you go, via a headset to get that real combat feel!
Once the basics are down, it’s time for the youngster to start firing some paintballs! Learn how to load up the cannon and how to aim and fire. Launch giant paintballs from the tank and try and hit the bullseye. This is where we find out which one of you has the best skills. We know who we’re rooting for!
The fun doesn’t stop there – you’re also welcome to look around the on-site museum, with some incredible examples of famous tanks, including some used in big screen movies such as Saving Private Ryan & Evita.
There’s also an on-site café, if you want to sit and relax and talk about the awesome experience you’ve just had.
Tank you very much!

We found the location very easily after going through a small quaint village, we were very early so stopped off and enjoyed a great lunch at the local pub. This was the only pub in the village and is also the only place I have been with no mobile signal at all.
After lunch we moved on to Armageddon only 2 miles further down the road. We were still very early but reception signed us in and said we could happily go round the museum while we wait for our experience at 14:30. Having finished the museum in about 45 minutes it was about 14:00 now and we were sitting waiting and watching others take part, you have the option to buy coffee, tea rolls and smalls snacks. The reception recognised that we were waiting and with this we actually started our experience early, which was great.
Charles took us to the tank and explained a lot about it answering every question we had confidently. We got in and it is very tight to move around and there was only 2 of us, hard to imagine what it is like with more than that. Charles took us round the 1st lap and then we stopped and shot the paintballs, it was good to see the process but the paintballs were a little light and influenced by the wind a little, but still fun. The tank driving was one lap through the top while being able to see everything and then with the hatch closed, great fun but with the hatch closed it is tight and you can see very little, only relying on the commands from above. After all this you get to reverse park a 17.5 ton tank, interesting comes to mind.
All in all a great day out and very enjoyable, a bucket list tick off.
