All that glitters is not gold, but Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre is the jewel in the crown of Britain’s dramatical past.
William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer of the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. Many of his famous plays were performed on the bank of the Thames, at the Globe Theatre.
The original theatre was built in 1599 but destroyed by a fire in 1613. It was then re-built in 1614, before being demolished in 1644.
Founded by actor and director Sam Wanamaker, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre as you see it today was built around 200 metres from the original site, using documented evidence of the 1599 and 1614 iterations. It has been open to the public since 1997, and this is your chance to visit!
Explore the theatre with a complimentary audio guide that provides you with tales and insight into the early productions. There are even stories of how the sound effects were created, more than 400 years ago, among many others.
Once you have been consumed by the rich history of such an extraordinary figure and theatre, it’s time to be treated to a two-course meal at one of a choice of nearby establishments.
Enjoy a set menu at either; Planet Hollywood, Cabana or the Spaghetti House. Restaurant sittings will be arranged when booking.
Please be aware, Shakespeare’s Globe is still a working theatre, so the opening times and tour slots are subject to change and show times will be taken into account when availability is offered.
